With a focus on helping their customers to drive long-term value from their supply chain activities, Bibby calls its approach “Logistics Without Limits.” Bibby is keenly aware that a company’s IT system must be designed to support business-critical processes and effective data management. The technical expertise and commitment to customer success of Burns & McDonnell’s multi-disciplinary staff are further demonstrated by the fact that more than 80 percent of the company’s projects come from repeat customers. Burns & McDonnell began to outgrow the in-house developed software the company was using for its financial accounting. The accounting team wanted an accrual basis solution to replace the cash-based legacy system. The criteria for the search included a proven, evolving solution and a vendor with experience in the engineering/construction industry. Since For Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group (DTG), the mission statement “Value Every Time” expresses consumer expectations and also describes the company’s internal strategy for success.
Profitable every year since the company’s initial public offering in 1997, DTG focuses on innovation and efficiency. The company’s more than 8,300 employees keep that focus in mind, and today DTG is a leader in Internet bookings and a premier value provider in the car rental industry. When DTG implemented JD Edwards EnterpriseOne in 1999, the company was required to keep its legacy chart of accounts structure, therefore they had to use business unit and account category codes in the JD Edwards system to do their reporting. Goodman Networks is a leader in providing solutions for the entire telecommunications lifecycle and has experienced rapid growth in its highly charged industry.
In 2007, Deloitte & Touche listed Goodman as the 20th fastest growing technology company in Texas. The numbers were dramatic: Based on a five-year survey of revenues, Goodman Networks showed an 840 percent increase in growth from 2002 to 2006. As Goodman Networks grew, its homegrown business applications could no longer meet the company’s needs. The software had little interconnectivity and required a lot of manual effort. Interstate Batteries
Since its founding in 1952, Interstate Battery System of America, Inc. (IBSA), or Interstate Batteries has grown dramatically.
Today the company has more than 300 wholesale distributors servicing the companies’ 200,000 retail dealers across the U.S. and Canada as well as select international locations. In addition, Insight assists us with various levels of detail for over 50 Interstate All Battery Center retail locations nationwide that supply batteries for household and business needs. This complex, growing company presented challenges for accounting efficiencies. For example, the Distributor Accounting Group, the Interstate Batteries home office, and the All Battery Centers were all using different accounting systems. Since 1977, Itron, Inc. has helped energy and water utilities collect and analyze detailed, timely data to guide informed decisions.
As the increasingly complex and vital worldwide energy industry has grown, Itron has expanded as well. Itron continues to grow through acquisition, enhancing its uniquely comprehensive portfolio of products and services. Itron had relied on JD Edwards World for many years, and members of Itron’s financial, accounting, and reporting groups were heavy users of Insight from InsightSoftware.com for JD Edwards. As Itron grew by acquisition, the rapid, easy ad-hoc reporting provided by Insight was particularly valuable to the company, according to Mike Eldred, Business Applications Manager, Itron. Ladbrokes
With origins dating back to 1886, Ladbrokes is a widely recognized brand and a leader in the global betting and gaming market.
The company is known for its breadth of betting and gaming services available through retail, online and telephone operations. Data specific city and granularity of analysis are gaming industry fundamentals. When Ladbrokes replaced its legacy mainframe-based accounting and reporting system with the Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), a key goal was enhancing business reporting. To this end, the company also implemented Oracle Financials Analyzer and Oracle Discoverer. However, Ladbrokes found it difficult to get timely information out of Oracle EBS, according to Daniel Weiss, International Financial Controller, Ladbrokes. The company used a combination of Discoverer reports, Financial Statement Generator (FSG) reporting, and Excel to piece together reports with consolidated views. Download Now
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services.
LLS fundraising results in millions of dollars invested in research each year. During the early years of the organization each of the local LLS chapters handled its own accounting. In 1999, LLS decided to centralize the accounting process using JD Edwards. Only the headquarters team had access to JD Edwards and that team supplied information to all the chapters on a weekly and monthly basis by e-mailing large PDFs. Download Now
Nintendo
Growing dramatically from its origins as a manufacturer of playing cards, Nintendo now manufactures and sells consoles.
Nintendo markets both hardware and software for its popular systems and has sold more than one billion video games worldwide. The company’s European Headquarters is Nintendo of Europe GmbH, located in Grossostheim, Germany. Nintendo of Europe has relied on JD Edwards since 2003, and the Financial Reporting group is charged with delivering a wide range of month end and specialized reporting that draws on JD Edwards data. Ravago Holdings America
Ravago Holdings America (RHA) is a private company comprised of the Muehlstein Group, Entec Polymers, and Entec subsidiaries including GeoChem International.
This very large, geographically widespread company is standardizing on JD Edwards with the ultimate goal of using JD Edwards EnterpriseOne across the entire RHA enterprise. While Entec and some of its subsidiaries are deploying JD Edwards for the first time, Muehlstein has been using JD Edwards World for nearly a decade and is now on coexistence with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and World, according to Dwight Paul, Manager of eCommerce Applications at Muehlstein. Facing challenges with reporting and inquiries, the Muehlstein team searched for a solution that could solve these challenges for Muehlstein and also help all RHA companies as they implement JD Edwards. Reading Borough Council
Reading Borough Council’s substantial responsibilities expanded even further in the late 1990s when the Berkshire County Council was abolished.
With this change, the Reading Borough Council became a unitary authority responsible for providing public services and delivering all aspects of local government across the entire Borough. As separate government entities, Berkshire and Reading ran in different financial environments. Now the combined organization needed a financial system ready to handle the increased requirements. In 1998, Reading Borough Council replaced its financial system with the Oracle E-Business Suite, implementing several Oracle EBS modules including General Ledger and Accounts Payable. Download Now
Sinclair International
The produce industry continues to evolve to meet the requirements of consumers and retailers, and fruit labeling is a dynamic case in point.
Each tiny label on an individual apple or other piece of loose produce can carry a large volume of information including the grower’s brand/logo, the fruit variety, and country of origin. Innovations such as Price Look Up (PLU) and bar coding provide even more data for pricing and traceability, and promotional messaging has begun to appear on these small but increasingly powerful labels. A recognized industry pioneer, Sinclair International, provides advanced, automated label solutions that keep pace with market demand. While it remains a small to medium-sized company, Sinclair has a global presence, and the company has grown dramatically since its founding in the 1980s. Download Now
SolFocus
The SolFocus mission is to provide innovative solar energy solutions which are competitive with fossil fuels.
To achieve this goal, SolFocus develops and leverages technologies to help reduce the cost barriers to solar energy. SolFocus has expanded rapidly since its founding, and today the company’s technical expertise encompasses a diverse base of disciplines including materials, packaging, devices, optical sciences, engineering and manufacturing. To keep pace with company growth, SolFocus decided to enhance its technology for global business management. In 2007, SolFocus implemented the General Ledger and Accounts Payable modules of the Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 (Oracle EBS R12). Oracle EBS R12 is the latest E-Business Suite release. The States of Jersey
The States of Jersey provides a full range of public sector services to over 87,000 citizens of the Island of Jersey.
Departments including education, police, fire, housing, courts, prisons, treasury, airports, planning and the environment, and harbors, to name just a few, have complex operational requirements. To address these needs with greater efficiency, the States of Jersey implemented JD Edwards in 2002. While JD Edwards provides excellent data-gathering and enterprise resource planning (ERP) capabilities, the States of Jersey found some reporting to be a challenge. There was limited functionality on the inquiry screen, particularly on category code inquiries. Manual, paper-based reporting became increasingly cumbersome and time-consuming. Download Now

Washtenaw County in southeastern Michigan encompasses 27 cities, villages, and townships.
The County government provides a wide range of services to citizens and businesses in settings that span urban, rural, small town, and suburban environments. Well known for successfully applying technology to help improve County services, Washtenaw County has achieved recognition from the Digital Counties Survey, CIO 100, and PTI Solutions, among other accolades. A primary guiding principle for the staff and management team of Washtenaw County is to ensure long-term fiscal stability for the county. To achieve cost efficiencies while enhancing service to the community, Washtenaw County works to make the best possible use of the County budget.
